I went back to Mexico. Again and again. Each time I came home with something beautiful and one of a kind.

As my 20th year on the job got closer — and retirement was so much closer — I kept asking myself: what am I going to do when I hang up my gear?

I loved going to Mexico. I loved talking to the artisans. I loved seeing their artwork up close, and I remembered — you don’t see a lot of authentic Mexican artisan jewelry here in Houston. You see the machine-made beaded jewelry everywhere — the sets that 50 people can buy because they are all the exact same. I like the unique jewelry that stops you in your tracks.

Yeah, that’s what I’ll do! I’ll go back and forth to Mexico to visit the wonderful artisans and bring their gallery-quality jewelry art here to Houston.

I’d stock pieces that celebrate our hometown teams, our university, and are also rodeo-ready. That screams Houston, don’t ya think?! That dream became Que Cute Houston.
